It may be just over 5 years since Baldy Installations was established, but the opening of our showroom in 2023 marked a huge milestone for us! Having a place on the island where customers can come in, look around, and stay for a chat, has allowed us to connect with the local community and build relationships well beyond ‘just business’.
From Small Beginnings to a Trusted Name
It has been an incredible journey so far, seeing our small family-owned business blossom into a reputable, trusted provider for homes and businesses across Bute, Glasgow, and beyond.
However, the inspiration behind what has built our glowing reputation started long before we opened our doors …!
A Family Affair …
Baldy Installations is actually named after Archibald Shaw, who was affectionately known as “Baldy” – and was the grandfather of Kris, Director.
Back in the 1950’s, Baldy established a successful plumbing business, earning the community’s respect with his quality work and approachable nature. Inspired by his grandfather, Kris set up Baldy Installations, with a view to carrying his name and his values forward. Last year, our eldest son, Jay, also joined the team and is embracing his new role as Project Manager. Together, we feel that our genuine care and commitment towards our customers is what really sets us apart.
As well as our own small family , we have our ‘extended family’ – dedicated professionals who are passionate about their trade, and get the same pleasure from seeing customers light up as we do! Most of our team of painters, joiners, plumbers and electricians are local to the island and are well-known in the community for the high standard of work they provide.
Bringing Customers’ Visions to Life …
As a family, we know just how difficult it can be to cater for the needs of many when it comes to designing the ideal kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. However, our years of experience in working with odd shapes, small corners, or dual-purpose areas enable us to find creative, practical and beautiful solutions to whatever design issues our customers present with. No job is too difficult!
From the first chat to the final finishing touch, we work to the customer’s vision, ensuring that they are involved and informed every step of the way – without the headache of organising the various trades involved. Whether you come to us with a clear idea of what you would like, or are at the very beginning of your design journey, Leanne, our Creative Designer, will take you through the process and discuss options and ideas until you have settled on your very own vision.

Then came the installation team into a building well over 100 years old where nothing is straight and nothing was easy. Under Kris’s meticulous eye the team of Scott, Jay, Liam and of course Charles delivered a kitchen that exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail and finish is outstanding. Scott and Jay were new to the team since Baldy fitted our bathroom and boy what an addition they are.
